Michael Hartley (GT-1) in a Dodge Viper Competition Coupe has won round 6 of the US GT Championship™, held earlier today at Sebring International Raceway.

Starting from pole position the World Challenge regular lead the entire race, fending off tough competition from Jim Stout (GT-1, Dodge Viper Competition Coupe) who started fourth.

Battling for bragging rights, Hoosier Tire and Cool Shirt® contingencies, the pair were inseparable the entire race.

Each lap Stout looked threatening, but although tantalizingly close to the top spot he remained just out of striking distance.

Russ Oasis (GT-1) finished third, giving Viper a clean sweep of the overall podium and the top three in GT-1.

Finishing in 4th overall, Kevin Ferguson won the GT-Unlimited class, while Steve Loudin held off Tom Antonelli for the GT-2 class win and 5th overall.

The battle between Loudin and Antonelli was the highlight of the race. The two ran nose to tail and side by side for laps on end.

Loudin started 7 places behind Antonelli, but after a stellar start and opening few corners he found himself behind Antonelli heading into turn 7.

The immediate pressure forced Antonelli to run wide, allowing Loudin to capitalize and take the position. Initially it looked as though Loudin might pull away but after radioing into the pits complaining he'd overheated the tires, Antonelli closed the gap.

As the pair dispersed with back markers Antonelli closed in, pulling along side Loudin's Tricel Racing Viper on Sebring's long back straight numerous laps in a row.

When Ferguson cleared them both, Loudin created an opportunity to gap Antonelli. The extra pressure appeared to work, with the All Chicago Fleet driver spinning on the exit of turn 5.

However after the race Antonelli revealed he had suffered from a power steering failure, causing him to drop back and eventually spin.

Antonelli rejoined the track quickly though, keeping his 6th position and maintained position to the checkered flag.

While the race was run under sunshine and dry track conditions, Sunday morning's qualifying session was a different story.

Just as in Saturday's race, tire choice was critical in Sunday's qualifying session.

A damp but drying track rewarded those on wet tires during most of the session, but with only a couple of minutes remaining times began to fall in favor for those running slicks.

As the checkered flag was displayed Michael Hartley (GT-1) and Russ Oasis (GT-1) rocketed to the top of the time sheets, displacing JIm Stout (GT-1), who had run on wet tires.

All the action from both championships will be captured using GoPro cameras by the Internal Production Group and will be broadcast later this year on GoRacingTV.com, hosted by motorsport television personality Tom Hnatiw.

The next rounds of the US GT Championship will be held June 10-12 at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Millville, NJ.
