NARRA announces first endurance race,

the Road Atlanta GT90.

The North American Road Racing Association has today announced it will offer a stand-alone endurance race at select events in 2012 to compliment its highly successful US GT Championship, Whelen USTTC and USPDE.

In the spirit of the world's great endurance races the names of these races will reference their location and duration. The first race, 1.5 hours (90 minutes) in length, will take place on the Friday of NARRA's Road Atlanta event, April 13-15. It will be known as the Road Atlanta GT90 presented by NARRA.

Endurance races at NARRA's Texas World and Watkins Glen events are also planned.

The races will be open to all high-end, high-performance GT styled racing cars, such as BMW, Corvette, Ferrari, Porsche and Viper.

Teams of one to four drivers can enter. A single five minute pit-stop will be mandatory, regardless of whether a driver change is being made.

To allow racers to do both the endurance and USGTC races on the same weekend, the same simple and highly popular power-to-weight ratio classing structure is being used; GT-3, GT-2, GT-1 and the no holds barred GT-Unlimited class.

Entry fee for the Road Altanta GT90 is only $395, including a day's testing and one driver. Each additional driver is $100.

NARRA general manager Rob Morrison explained adding an endurance offering:

"So much interest has been generated in the USGTC, after last year's inaugural season. Many of the teams and parties contacting me have also expressed interest in running longer races with driver changes, in addition to our two USGTC sprint races.

We have been observing similar offerings from other sanctioning bodies, but we believe we can offer an endurance product which is a step up from what they're doing.

Competitors can expect the same level of professionalism and approach to our endurance offering as they have come to expect from the USGTC.

Like the USGTC we expect a similar mix of amateur and pro-drivers to enter, as well as some of the fastest cars in the country. Given they're on the same weekend, we think many will drive in both [endurance and USGTC].

These enduros should make for some exciting racing- something that shouldn't be missed by any local, regional or national level drivers.

As well as the Road Atlanta GT90, we are planning races for the Texas World weekend [Sept 21-23] and Watkins Glen [Oct 19-21]. Other events too, if there's considerable interest. Whether they'll be on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and what distance they'll be is still being assessed.

We're hoping to get enough interest in 2012 to add a complete endurance point series in 2013."

Date: April 13.

Length: 90 minute endurance race.

No. of Drivers: 1-4 per car (each require NARRA license).

Eligible cars: All high-end, high-performance GT cars fitting USGTC classes; GT-3, GT-2, GT-1 and GT-U.

Pit stop: One mandatory 5 minute stop required, even if no driver change required.

Points: None. This race is a non-championship race.

Entry Fees: $395 (Enduro plus testing, one driver included). Additional drivers $100 each.
